The picture above shows the registry room at Ellis Island where up to 5,000 people per day were processed as they arrived as immigrants to the United States. Millions of immigrants including my great grandfather passed through these halls being examined for diseases and answering questions to determine whether or not they were fit to enter the United States. Wheat a bewildering experience it must have been. The image below was made between 1902 and 1913.

Great share of an historic place. Thank you.
Thank you, my pleasure.
That building seems to be well preserved after more than a century.
That was my thought as well.
I believe they restored it at some point. The hospital has not been restored but they have preserved it so that it doesn’t continue to deteriorate.
Such a difference between then and now.
Yes, it’s pretty now but feels a bit sterile.
I got that feeling from the photo. It seems all the ghosts have been excised.
We were there a few years back. Took almost the same image, but from above the room. I have them somewhere. It was interesting to stand in the same place of history long ago.
It would be fascinating to see it the way it was a hundred years ago. We can only imagine.
Amazing picture and to compare it with the old was wonderful.
Both sets of my grandparents came through there.
Have a great week Chris.
You too, Nancy. Thank you.
Paternal grandfather and his kin came through here right before WW2.
Wow, that’s quite a history.
Didn’t discover it until doing Ancestry DNA test and VOILA!
My wife has done a lot through the DNA and Ancestry. She’s amazing.
Cool! I wasn’t surprised by some countries of origins but totally blown away by others.
A stately share. Glad you are able to post regularly now 😀👍
Thank you, Garfield
