I made the image above from the top of a parking garage near Boston’s New England Aquarium. It was made with my Canon camera.
I’d bought a new iPhone app called NightMode for low-light pictures and decided to make the same image with the app. I had some issues with the app when it got darker but it may be due to my not fully understanding how to use it. The NightMode image is below.
How do you think the two images compare?

I like the first image much better than the second.
The second image is clearer but the night sky is more washed out and so the colour is not as interesting π
Hmmm, good analysis. Thank you.
I like both but prefer the second, softer image. At night we really don’t see with clarity. Enjoy what’s left of the weekend. πββοΈ
Thank you, Ashley. Have a good weekend also.
Canon wins. π
Thank you, Judy. I love the Canon, but sometimes the iPhone is more convenient.
The iPhone is always with us, and it does take amazing photos.
So true.
I prefer the sky in the upper image, but the detail in the dark areas in the lower image is much clearer. The upper image is the better for enhancing the mood of the evening.
Thank you, John. Each has it’s strengths. I have to say, for an app, it does a pretty good job.
I have such wonderful memories of my visits to Boston. πβ¨π«
I’m glad we left you with good memories.
The Best. πβ¨π«
I like the second photo better. It’s more subdued. The first one reminds of those lightbulbs that when you turn them on, they make me squint. You know what I mean? The second photo is an, ‘ah, that’s nice’ kind of photo, for me.
Thanks, Lois. The light is different between the two photos.
I prefer the vibrancy of the first image.
Thank you. The light and colors are vibrant.
Wow π·
Thank you.
For me the second one is the best (most clear and more detail) – The sky in the first one is better but don’t know if your phone can compensate this.
Thank you. I’m not sure why the second one is more clear. Perhaps if I pushed the clarity a bit in post processing on the first one it would be better.
The detail on the bottom pic is sharper, but the lighting on the top one is an attention getter. I would vote for the top one!! Great shot!!
Thank you, Kirt. It’s interesting the iPhone app captured more detail.
I thought the same thing…..??
I think the Canon takes some beating. A great shot either way.
I agree. It’s a lot of weight to carry for a small difference. Thank you
For me itβs the first image, it looks more bold and saturated.
Thank you so much.
The second image could be improved by using software to get the vertical lines not converging.
Oh, thats a great idea. Thank you.
Great pictures!
Thank you so much.
