Thank you to everyone who responded to my question this morning. The concensus seems to by to call it a portico, though terrace and patio seem like good synonyms to describe its function.
The challenge to writing is that you can’t use the same term repeately in a paragraph. Having synonyms helps.
I got sidetracked when I Googled architectural terms. I’m others were able to help!
I’m glad I’m not the only one prone to getting side tracked.
What? Squirrel!
Ha ha ha
That is so true re repeating the same word or term, Chris. Using synonyms is something I learnt early on. Once you start writing this way, it becomes natural and you find yourself changing the same single distinct meaningful element of writing without thinking (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself 😂🤣😂).
Portico sounds great!
Thank you – I agree.
Great! It is settled then! I enjoyed reading all the comments and suggestions!
Sorry I saw this only now, so I’m late to the party. There’s also the possibilty to call this kind of structure a cloister, arcade, colonnade, colonnated walkway around a courtyard…
