Thank you (aka: I say “portico”; you say “patio”.)

Thank you to everyone who responded to my question this morning. The concensus seems to by to call it a portico, though terrace and patio seem like good synonyms to describe its function.

The challenge to writing is that you can’t use the same term repeately in a paragraph. Having synonyms helps.

That is so true re repeating the same word or term, Chris. Using synonyms is something I learnt early on. Once you start writing this way, it becomes natural and you find yourself changing the same single distinct meaningful element of writing without thinking (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚).

Sorry I saw this only now, so I’m late to the party. There’s also the possibilty to call this kind of structure a cloister, arcade, colonnade, colonnated walkway around a courtyard…
