This fall, we went to a Renaissance Fair and Blacksmithing Event. There were numerous people working with iron. The man in the photo was literally making a chain, hence the title. It was a time consuming and laborious task to do this by hand. Those of you who are Game of Throne fans will get the tie-in with the show.
Although not a Game of Thrones follower, I love all sorts of handcrafts. Great to see this one being carried forward.
It was good to see so many young people getting involved in this old art.
I enjoy Watching a Blacksmith! So intensive and then such beautiful products that are made!
Me too. I’m the annoying person in the family when we visit living history museums because I want to spend all my time at the blacksmiths.
It must take a long time to make even a small chain this way. I admire the old skills.
It was taking several minutes to fashion a single link. What patience people must have had.
And still we haven’t made it to the Ren Fair here. One of these days we’ll make it. Great shot of the chain maker.
That would have been so cool to see what goes into creating chains….I applaud those involved in this event…great post!
Thank you, Kirt. I could watch them all day long.
Great shots! And how wonderful to see young people doing this craft!! Love it!
Thank you. I’m glad this traditional art continues.
