My wife hung a hummingbird feeder for the first time this year. It really works. I tried taking some photos of them with very little luck. My friend Hien posted some image that he made of hummingbirds on his blog. He is a master at making images of birds. You can see his hummingbird photos here. He was kind enough to give me some tips and with them, I was able to make these images the other morning.
Thank you, Hien!
Bravo! Very nice shots!
Thank you so much Hien. From you, that is high praise. Cheers
These are wonderful, Chris. Those little wings going ninety to nothing amaze me! Great captures.
Thank you Lois. Those wings do go fast. Cheers!
I had one fly up to my kitchen window as if to ask, “What happened to all the food?” 😜
OMG – That must have been a sight!
Yeah, wish I had your camera! lol 👀🍃
Well, when I made the photos I showed today, one did something similar. The lens just can’t focus fast enough to catch it. We will have good memories though. Cheers
Love the little hummers 🙂
Same here. They are so fun to watch. Cheers!
Good for your wife! Hummingbirds are not the easiest to catch in a photo but you have a good start! Most of ours are gone but i still have two feeders up and two stragglers that fight over the feeders. They are really fun to watch.
Thank you. They are amazing to watch. Photography takes a lot of patience.
Isn’t it amazing how fast they find a new feeder in the neighborhood? You have to wonder how they do it.
It is just amazing. They are such incredible creatures. Cheers
Your photography skills are always impressive, but this is something special for anyone who appreciates seeing a hummingbird and knowing how fast they are. Applause. 🙂
Thank you. The feeder helps keep them coming back. Cheers
Beautiful shots, and you have perhaps the best teacher I know of when it comes to shooting birds. Hien is a master at making images of birds, and it seems you have the same gift.
Thank you. I wish I had Hien’s gift. He was kind enough to share some techniques with me. Perhaps with practice, I can improve. Cheers
Just this last 10 days we have been visited by humming birds for the first time …. they are mesmerising! We do not have a feeder and will wait til next year now and start early – if I manage to get a single shot of one I will be delighted …. your captures are rapturous!
Thank you so much. We used to occasionally spot hummingbirds coming to my wife’s flowers before we had the feeder. Now they are daily visitors. Photographing them is a bit tricky. Cheers
What terrific photos! We have a few hummingbirds in our yard (not sure why as we don’t have a feeder), but I’ve never managed to get a photo of them. Still, they are certainly fun to watch!
Thank you. I think the feeder is the way to photograph them. Otherwise, it’s too hard to predict where they’ll land or hover. Cheers
I find them so fascinating to watch….hard to keep the feeders full they go thru it so fast. Ours is by our fountain out off the patio….so they flutter between the feeder and the water. Love it when I’m sitting out there. They have gotten use to me and now they will come almost up to my face…hover…check me out for a few minutes and then move on…
That is so cool. We’ve just been observing them through the window, but perhaps I’ll spend more time outside. Cheers!
Lucky you! Beautiful pictures!
Thank you so much. Cheers!
Oh! They’re so lovely and cute!! Wish we had them around here as well. And your pics are great! I bet it’s awfully difficult to get decent shots of them what with their speed! Maybe you could do a little video too? 😉 Have fun watching the beautiful hummies! 😄
Thank you, Sarah. A video might be fun. Let me think on that one. CHeers!
They’re wonderful Chris can you hear their little wings? I have a friend in BC who also has feeders and she has named “hers” as she tells me she knows them all…she’s a printmaker so she study’s these sorts of things….lovely post ☺️💫☀️
Thank you, Hedy. I have not been studious enough to name any of them. They are fun to watch. Typically, our bird feeders are down in the summer to avoid interactions with bears. This is a nice way to experience birds in summer. Cheers!
Fantastic pictures! These little cuties don’t stay still much.
Thank you. They only stay still if you feed them. CHeers!
🙂
