I literally just made these images. While sitting at my computer editing some images for my wife, something caught my eye near the woods behind the house. This pileated woodpecker was looking for bugs and worms in an old stump. I grabbed my camera and long lens to get some photos out the back window. A second after I set up, a squirrel came along to challenge the woodpecker for supremacy of the stump. The bird won. As you can see it is good sized and I’ve seen the holed they can drill in wood. I would not mess with one.
Wow its colors and feathers are fabulous …the forest behind your house is a fantastic world indeed…but I think you should take care Chris…wild life is dangerous sometimes…
Cheers…
Amazing images indeed.
I thank you, Sohair. I am always careful with animals. None really seem to want to bother me but they do want to be left alone. I give them lots of space. Cheers
Great..:-)
The bird looks fierce. Cute, fluffy squirrel was smart to move one. I’d have done the same. What great captures, Chris.
Thanks, Lois. The bird likely looked pretty scary to the squirrel. Cheers
Great :o) !!!!
Thank you so much. Cheers
That was a very angry woodpecker. π
Great shots
Oh, it was not at all pleased with the squirrel. Iβm surprised the squirrel bothered him. Oh well.
Probably a territory issue. Resulting in very nice shots. Have a great week.
Thank you. You as well. Cheers!
Fantastic shots! You were there at the right place, right time.
Thank you. It was very fortunate. Cheers
Ooh these last 2 posts show us that you live in an area vibrant with natural forest life! That is one woodpecker that looks a bit angry and you are right…if I am the squirrel, I will run away! Nice share. Thanks!
Thanks Garfield. Cheers
He is so beautiful! Amazing photos! π
Thank you so much. Cheers
Wonderful capture! Thank you for sharing!
My pleasure. Thank you. Cheers
While working around the house, my husband disturbed a nest of baby birds. They got so excited, they all flew into the garage and he had a time coaxing them back outside. π
Oh dear. Iβm sure their being young made it more of a challenge. Cheers
The Pileated is one of my fav birds. Amazing how large they are! How lucky you are to have one in your backyard and to capture the bird/squirrel encounter is a bonus.
They are beautiful and amazing. I donβt see them often, though this one made a reappearance today. The whole interaction with the squirrel was such fun to capture. I was very fortunate. Thank you and cheers.
I’m not going to mess with it either! Such a great find here though with your camera, Chris π
Thanks, Christy. Cheers
Wonder who won that argument? π
It was not much of a contest. Woody won!
A fleeting moment Chris I know little about birds but today I woken by singing birds…nature and being outside is best! Have a productive day βΊοΈπ€π« smiles from sunny jet lagged Hedy π
Ugh. Jet lag. The woodpecker was a nice surprise that was made better by the squirrel wandering into the shot. Have a great week Hedy. Cheers
Serendipity strikes again! WOW shots, Chris.
Thanks Lindy. Cheers
Great shots, Chris! That squirrel didn’t stand a chance! The woodpecker looks beautiful and fierce!
Thanks, Sarah. I hope you had a great Saturday. Cheers
It was quite productive what with spring cleaning and starting a new painting. Hope yours was good too! π
I had a training yesterday to attend but did a photo shoot Friday night. I have a few things to do around the house today. Cheers
Yay to the photo shoot!! Look forward to see them! Have an awesome Sunday! π I’m currently waiting for the paint to dry to apply the next layer. π Cheers!
I hope the painting turns out great!
Me too! π
I hope we get to see it. π
