Recently, I’ve been making images in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. The city grew up around a series of paper mills on the Nashua River. I worked for a social service agency in the city for a few years around 1990. abt outhat time, some of the mills were closing. The city has faced a number of challenges based on changing economics. I’m not sure of the status of the mill pictured here. It looks kept up but a web search says it was to close in 2009. It does not look like it’s been closed for nearly a decade. As I share images from Fitchburg, you’ll see some places that are abandoned and others that have been repurposed.

I’ll look forward to seeing ones that have been repurposed. It is always sad to see such large facilities.
Some have been used in unusual ways. It’s interesting. Cheers
I like the Fitchburg Art Museum.
I’ll have to check it out one day. Cheers!
Hope you get in or closer to the abandoned ones 🙂
I have. Not inside, but closer. Cheers!
Wonderful shot, Chris! It´s hard for me to decide which way I like it better – the b/w is classic, but I also like the soft tones of the color version. Look forward to see more of Fitchburg! Cheers! 🙂
Thank you, Sarah. Cheers
Both images are great though taken from afar..cheers .
Thank you. Yes, the only place to take a good photo of the whole paper mill is from a hill across the river. I’m not sure I could get onto the grounds of the mill. If I did, it would be a series of images. It’s too big to shoot the whole thing from close up. Cheers!
