Boston City Hall is not the prettiest building. Being “blocky” and all concrete, it takes some hits by architectural critics. But….it looks rather nice with the light from the rising sun on it.
Actually, last year they set up a Christmas Village in the plaza on the other side. I posted some pics there last year and I’m sure I’ll do the same again this season. Cheers
Impressive photo. Was just in Boston a few months ago and was struck by how stark and utilitarian this building looked as I walked by. The curved ramps on the northern face broke up the monotony a bit, but I still felt like this would be a miserable place to work.
However, your right. It does look beautiful in the right light.
Cheers!
Yes, it is very utilitarian looking. The old city hall was so 19th century classical in nature. They started to put colored lights on it at night and that makes it look better after dark. Cheers!
Oh no! I actually love that building ….
It looks nice at night lit up for the holidays.
I actually see something of North African architecture, pared down in it’s design …
Hmmm. I’ve never looked at it that way before. Interesting.
The Boston building, built in 1968, bears a striking ressemblance to the Academic Quadrangle http://www.sfu.ca/fs/Campus-Facility-Profiles/Building_Information/Academic_Quadrangle.html. at Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, BC, built in 1965,and designed by Arthur Erickson and Geoffrey Massey.
They are similar and built about the same time. I think the architects were different. That was the age of concrete. Cheers
it looks “strong, secure and confident”… does it get decorated for the holidays?

Yes
You found her beauty
A canyon wall
Thank you so much. Cheers
The right lighting is everything! Something about it reminded me of Cliff Dwellings.
Great shot but it is from that bland “concrete is king” era 😦
I seem to remember that the Plaza area was in the movie The Departed – is that right?
I think so…It’s been a few years since I’ve seen the movie. Cheers!
Wow …the golden color of the great building is fantastic….thanks for sharing that beauty with us Chris !!!
Good morning pretty Boston !!!
My pleasure, Soheir. Cheers
Love how the sunlight softens the building – great capture, Chris! 😄
Thank you, Sarah. The light makes the building look great. Cheers
