It is Patriot’s Day in Massachusetts, which also means it is Marathon Monday, the day the Boston Marathon is run. For the weekend before the race, the streets around the finish line are closed to traffic and people walk around taking photos of themselves and friends. Most of us will never cross the finish line as part of the race. It is our chance to run, walk, of bike across this line. Many runners stop by after picking up their bib number and snap a photo before the race on Monday. When we ventured down on Saturday night, we spoke with people from various parts of the country and the world. It’s nice to see everyone coming together in peace. There are no politics here.
I’m in school the next few days but later this week, I’ll share a few more images of some rather distinctive people.
Looking forward to the pics and you should be coming near end of semester soon ๐
Not really. We are on a strange system. I had two weeks off in March and am now in it until June. More pics to come. ๐
Awesome for all to gather beforehand… in peace. Glad all went well.
Something always happens on the day of this event that affects me.
It is a powerful event.
Awesome post! Just saw the movie a few weeks ago of the bombing and it brought chills up my spine how Boston came together. What a monumental day for so many. ๐บ๐ธ
Thank you. The city really came together during the tragedy. The marathon is one of the highlights of the year. Cheers
It must have been a moving experience, yet empowering to be there. Lots to think about. Nice photos.
Thank you, Annie. It is sobering to see the wreath commemorating those who died but there is such hope and human spirit there.
Wonderful to see it happening in peace
Thank you, Christy. I totally agree. Cheers!
Wonderful to see everybodyยดs having a good time and crossing that line! ๐ Glad all went well and in peace! Cheers!
Thank you,Sarah. It was a fun evening. Cheers
It is always exciting to be around races, Chris!
We are getting ready for the Columbus Marathon. My artist brother, Randy doesn’t run but my professor brother, Rich, has been in a few Boston Marathons! I liked my favorite race of his was one with three states and it is at the corner of them, running over a bridge to an island and back. I was one of the designated drivers, water bottle and energy drink persons who studied the map the night beforehand so I could pass him the right thing at right time. We stayed overnight in Bettendorf, Iowa. Hope to read and see more pictures of this Boston Marathon 2017.
Wow, I’m impressed your brother has run Boston. It is not easy to qualify for that one. You are like the energizer bunny getting all the water bottles and such at the right place at the right time. ๐
It has been fun since in my high school days, when Rich beat the freshman class record in long distance (someone else has beat that. . . ๐ ) He qualified for the Junior Olympic trials. His cross country team won state. . . As a girl, they started allowing them to run in the seventies, but I was already in so many things I didn’t consider this. I went to every running event for quite some time, carting around shoes, spare water, Hershey’s chocolate bars and orange slices.
Rich ran at Cornell where he had the opportunity to run in Oxford, England. Not sure what level of medal he has.
He ran as a Tarheel, while pursuing his Master’s degree.
Yes, he now runs in the senior level. (Do they call them Masters!?) ๐
Your brother has had quite the running career. Good for him. I did a bit after college up until maybe 15 years ago. So you were his support person! That’s great! We were discussing “masters” level last night with friends. I think that is anything after college, but don’t quote me on that. Cheers!
Hahaha! I meant senior citizens! But good to know! ๐
