Here is my guest post this week in my friend Monica’s blog. A bit of wildlife photography and video. Her blog is awesoe, check it out: lookaround99.wordpress.com
Guest Post by Christopher O’Keefe … … I’ve seen this guy (or gal) a lot lately on one of the local hiking trails. He is a North American porcupine. The name is not that flattering, it means “quill pig” in old French. When I first saw him, he would just curl up in […]
I love the way he/shewalks….or waddles. So cute.
Yeah, he/she is interesting. I’ve not seen him/her since a few days after this but am always on the lookout. Cheers!
Look but don’t touch!
No no no…That is why I backed up when he came closer. Yikes!
But he just wanted to say hello! hehehe
It’s cool that you have gained the trust of your little friend and it’s hard to picture him climbing a tree. Love the video.
Thank you…Yes, I enjoy seeing him. I can picture him in a tree either but they will live in trees. There is a tree that was split by lightening and porcupines will live in the hollow. At the end of every winter there is a big pile of droppings at the base.
very cute 😀
Cute, yes, but not exactly pet material. Cheers!
WOW… a fluffy fatty bum, unfortunately cannot be cuddled 😀
Great video!
Ciao
Sid
No, but he is cute. Cheers!
Oh wow! I’ve never seen one in the wild although I hear they’re fairly common in New England. Can a porcupine run? You got mighty close….
I heard they can but I think this guy is used to people. They are common but you don’t see them that often. I did back up as he got closer. Cheers!
That’s awesome! Although I wouldn’t want to get any of his Quills!
Awh cute 🙂

Thank you =)
Ahh, you made me smile and laugh with this, Chris! It´s sooooo unbelievably cute! 🙂 I wish it would waddle around in my backyard! And the way it walks – cuteness in perfection! Cheers and thank you so much for sharing the video – and the lovely photograph, too! 🙂
Thank you…After I made the video, I realized I had no good stills of him or her. Luckily, it was wandering around a day that I returned with my camera. And that is the last of seen of it. Winter is coming! Thank you, Sarah!
Ahh, I hope it will return and pose some more for you! We can always add a mammal section to our Bird-Vogue project, you know 😉 Cheers!
There was an article in a local paper this week saying that the porcupine population is on the rise and they will hang out with people and other animals around. Who would bother them!?
Haha! Yes, I guess it’s not easy for them to make new friends 😉 But the one you filmed looked curious and not in the least aggressive so I think I would take the risk 😃
Yes, we became chummy until it started to get colder. I think he is someplace trying to stay warm now. Cheers!
It certainly wasnt afraid of you mate thats for sure > ballsy little fellow
Yeah, that he is. A local guy has a wildlife camera in his apple orchard. He said he sees these guys right next to coyotes and bears. Nobody bothers them…they have diplomatic immunity.
Ha ha > Thats amazing. Not much wildlife around here. Just the sparrows LOL
