A couple of week’s ago, I showed a view of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Well, if you have a naval shipyard, you must protect it. During the two World Wars, Fort Stark protected the mouth of Portsmouth Harbor. Now decommissioned and the guns scraped it is a park. You can access some parts of the fort but other parts are off limits due to structural concerns.
Beautiful captures, Christopher 🙂
How much history is hiding in those walls …
Thank you, Monica. There is much history here. Before this fort, there were other forts in this place in the 18th and 19th centuries. Cheers! 😎
😀
It’s stark alright 😉 My kind of place to explore.
You could have a lot of fun here, Teri. Cheers!
I love these old forts. We have a couple here in sunny FL that we go to explore and take pictures. You are walking with history! Great photos, Chris.
Thank you, Lois. We loved the old fort in St Augustine when we visited. I think that is the only one I’ve been to in FL. Have a great day….Cheers =)
Beautiful shots, Chris! I love the compostion of each one of them! Shipyards are really fascinating – my granddad was a shipbuilding engineer, so there´s some sailor blood in my veins;)
Thank you, Sarah. I want to also visit the Charlestown Navy Yard sometime this spring. It has some old dry docks and I believe there is an old frigate in one now.
Sailor blood…that does sound exciting. Cheers! 😊
Oh, I´m soo looking forward to see those pictures! Especially of the frigate! Wish you an exciting trip with the best of weathers for it!
Well, I wish this sailor blood would work better – I´m getting sea-sick really quickly;) But I just love ships of all kinds! Even used to do some rowing when I was at school:)
I’m a big fan of calm seas. The shoot at the Navy yard should be nice. I just need to plan a day to go down there. Cheers!
Me too! Then I´m sure you´d like the Seascapes by Hiroshi Sugimoto, if you don´t already know them? There´s been an exposition of his works a couple of years ago in Berlin and it was simply amazing! Cheers! Sarah 🙂
This is another one that I’ll have to research. Thanks. If all goes well, I may head to the Navy yard on Sunday morning. Cheers.
Oh, I hope it does! Wish you lots of sunshine and good coffee to keep you warm:) Cheers!
Thank you, Sarah…I’m getting quite familiar with the coffee shops in downtown Boston. =)
Great minds think Alike I was out at Stark last weekend!
Oh, no kidding. It was my first time there. Nice spot.
A real grungy urbex feel to these photos. Love the feel of the photos
