Life on the ice is pretty interesting. As you can see, there are many ways for people to decorate their bob houses, from signs to flags to lettering. And there is much to do, besides fishing. People have to chop wood for their woodstoves and do maintenance on their bob houses. The ice freezes around them, requiring them to chop them free with axes by the end of the season. Cooking is a big part of the day. It is like tailgating for a sporting event or concert. And there is traveling around on various vehicles…more on that another day.
it certainly seems like a lot of work and not a lot of fish? 🙂
It is a lot of work but also a lot of fun, I think. It’s more fun if you are catching fish, but still not a bad way to spend the day if you don’t.
lol… at least there are no red ants
who knew??!! This is fascinating!
There’s a whole other world out on the ice. 🙂
To cold for me. Sure looks like fun though.
What was amazing was how warm it can get out there on a sunny day with no wind. All that ice reflecting the sun makes it rather toasty.
Brrrrrrr! Great shots of an event you will never catch me at! Toooo cold for me 🙂
Thank you….As my grandmother always said “Different strokes for different folks.”
you really gave us a feel for the personality of the different people that do this unique sport – and the flag hanging says much – I also like the artsy feel of the watch for sign (now I feel very cold for some reason)
Thank you…There is a certain amount of individuality in buidling one’s bob house. I actually went back to that bob house for the watch for sign. I have a great shot from last year of a trailer with a flag over it and the wind has it straight out. If you get cold, you just go stand by the fire barrel for a bit…
