About a dozen times each year, the city of Providence holds Waterfire. Almost 100 braziers are installed in the river running through town, filled with fire wood and set ablaze after sunset.
Before sunset, people (including this gondolier) line the river waiting for Waterfire.
The circular basin is the first to be lit.
The fires extend across the downtown.
People line the banks of the river to watch the fires.
At the other end of the river, we spotted luminaries with lit stars hanging above. They seemed to be in a pattern.
